 Curriculum Vitae Tips


A Curriculum Vitae is your major selling tool. It allows for the preliminary viewing of a potential position for you. It needs to be concise and hold all relevant information in direct relation to the position you are applying for. Curriculum Vitaes may need to be tailored to a specific position but including the following information will cover necessities:

  • Personal Details
  • Qualifications
  • Employment History
  • Interests and Achievements

Personal Details need to include Name, Address, Telephone Number, E-Mail Address and Date of Birth.

Qualifications need to include your most recent qualification, be it Degree, Diploma, Certificate. Your grades from secondary school are applicable also.

Employment History is paramount. Needs to be accurate, honest and easy to read and understand. Always put your current or most recent position first.
Give your title and a brief description of duties and responsibilities.
Reason for leaving a particular position is a very common question at interviews. Do not leave any gaps in your employment history as this leads to questions at interview stage also.

Interests and Achievements are important. A selection of interests are more favorable as this give the impression that you are flexible and adaptable.
Achievements can demonstrate commitment and loyalty. Awards and such like are given as a result of an achievement and do need to be recognised.

Once the Curriculum Vitae is produced, spelling and grammar need to be accurately checked. Inaccuracies are seen as negative. Your Curriculum Vitae needs to do the initial selling of you to a potential employer. It needs to be honest, east to read and understand and include all relevant information. IT NEEDS TO BE YOU. Once read, it should make the potential employer eager to learn more about you and arrange for an interview.
